RENTAL POLICIES

These are general rental policies that in no way replace the policies or statements outlined on the rental agreement or its terms & conditions page.

Every renter must provide a current Driver’s License and Credit Card. Both must be in the renter’s name. The renter’s driver’s license must be valid during the entire rental period.

Non-US driver’s licenses are accepted. If the license is in a language other than English, an International Driver’s Permit is required. Renters with a non-US license must purchase full coverage insurance.

California Rent A Car does NOT accept debit cards or prepaid cards of any kind.

Renters must be a minimum of 21 years old except for the following vehicles, which require the renter to be 25 or older:

  • Chevy Suburban
  • Chevy Tahoe
  • 12 & 15 Passenger Vans
  • Mercedes E Class
  • All Tesla models
  • Refrigerated Vans

This list is subject to change. Please contact one of our representatives for additional vehicles.

Renters must provide evidence of full auto coverage/insurance. If a renter does not have full coverage that extends to a rental, full coverage may be purchased from us.

All vehicles are NON-SMOKING. The fee for vehicles returned with ash or a smoke smell starts at $50 and can be much higher.

Our vehicles can be driven anywhere in the state of California and – with permission from a California Rent A Car representative – Nevada and Arizona. Please tell us in advance if you’re traveling out of state.

While Renter’s Liability Insurance (RLI) is available on most rentals, Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI) is NOT available on 12 & 15 Passenger Vans, Cargo Vans or Refrigerated Vans.

CDW on Passenger Vehicles (Mid and High Roof vans are NOT Passenger Vehicles as defined by Cal Civ Code §§ 1939.01 – 1939.37)

CDW is NOT insurance. It is an optional service that waives our right to collect repair costs from the renter for damage done to our vehicle. Coverage exceptions apply.

The following is a non-exhaustive list of actions that are certain to void CDW coverage:
● Driving the vehicle off paved roads
● Vehicle being driven by anyone not authorized by the rental agreement
● Using the vehicle for any illegal or improper purpose
● Failing to complete a CA Rent A Car Incident Report within 24 hours of occurrence
● Intentional, willful, wanton or reckless conduct
● Driving the vehicle to Mexico
● Any act that breaches the Rental Agreement

CDW on Non-Passenger Vehicles (Mid and High Roof vans of all types and Refrigerated Vans).
CDW does not cover roof damage or any damage caused by overhead collision.
CDW is available on High Roof Cargo Vans & Refrigerated Vans. There is a $1500 deductible on all damage.

FUEL

All vehicles should be returned with the same level of fuel they went out with. Re-fueling fees apply to vehicles returned with less fuel than at the start of rental.

RETURNS
When permitted, vehicles that are returned after hours are not checked in until the next business day. Returning a vehicle after hours does not reflect or communicate in any way a rental being closed out or returned without damage.
